Us!

We're both PhD candidates at the University of California, Irvine. We met at Bard College in May of 2004, at a ceremony where we ate pasta and each received awards from our departments.

We obviously both knew it was destined to be from the start, because we didn't bother to speak to one-another for six months. Indeed, we only saw one-another in passing from then until the International Students Organization party at Kline in November, when we scandalized our friends by immediately making out on the dance floor. Or, we scandalized Todd's friends -- it's rather hard to scandalize Corinne.

Todd

Gary Todd "The Boz" Johnson was born on October 15, 1982, and the world literally hasn't been the same since. Literally.

Growing up, Todd lived in a variety of exotic locales, such as Decatur, Alabama; Nasheville, Tennesee and San Antonio, Texas before his family settled in the area around Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The only constant through all of these moves was that, in each of these places, it's not at all hard to get good iced tea. Having had enough of good iced tea, Todd decided before college to see the rest of the country. So far he's lived in such tea-barren places as Upstate New York, Boston, and California.

Presently, Todd is a graduate student in computer science under the direction of Eric Mjolsness. His academic interests include machine learning, probabilistic graphical models, and computational biology. His personal interests include basketball, coffee, and books.

Ruth

Ruth Michelle Barrett was born September 21, 1983. It took some time for the word to get out, but within two days her birth had sparked a civil war and a Happy Couple! Teh happy couplz. prison riot.

Not to be outdone by Todd's parents' aimless wandering of the country, Ruth's family spent her childhood in such places as Rew, PA; Madison, Wisconsin; Harrisburg, PA, and finally Johnson City, Tennessee. Unfortunately, there is no delicious beverage unifying these cities.

These days, Ruth is a graduate student in neuroscience, specializing in the neurobiology of learning and memory. Her advisor is Marcelo Wood, whose lab is adorable.

Ruth's interests include racquetball, running, mojitos, and ice cream. Also, you can't discount the possibility that she's only marrying Todd because all of the rest of the men in her family are computer scientists, and she didn't want to screw up the symmetry.
